Climbing Programme – Term 1, October 2008

Dorell Sports Services manages its own Climbing lessons outside the extracurricular sports activities under its division 'Dorell Climbing'.

The programme starts Thursday 16th of October 2008 at our outdoor Climbing Tower at the Horizon school (Next to Safa Park gate 4) and will now run for 9 consecutive weeks of the school term.
Lessons are open to outside students starting from Grade 1.

Lessons of 60 minutes are offered at:
• Course 1 (total 5 weeks, start OCT 16) – Test on last day.
• Course 2 (total 4 weeks, start NOV 20) – Certificate on last day.
• Total cost DHS 500 (possible in 2 payments of DHS 250).

All our courses consist of 4 students per class per instructor only.

The timings are from 2.15pm till 6.00pm for children and from 6pm onwards for adults. We are open all weekday evenings from 6.00pm till 8.30pm, just pass by whenever you feel like it and start climbing with us. We charge DHS 50 for the whole evening only.
All climbing equipment is provided by us at no extra cost (except climbing shoes).

All climbing lessons are managed by Maurice, Darryn and Feras.

Group sizes will be based on both ability and age. We schedule 4 students per instructor only this season. See lesson schedule for the term. Ability levels are defined as follows:

• MadMonkeys – Grade 1 & Grade 2 & Grade 3
• Mountaineers - Grade 4 & Grade 5 & Grade 6.
• Vertigo – Grade 7+ are scheduled after 3pm.
• Adult Team – 18 Years and above will climb 6pm-830pm.

All weekly classes start 14.15 and are open to all grades!
We are with 2 instructors and will separate 2 groups each class; Mad Monkeys & Mountaineers.

First Steps to Climbing
Climbing is a sport that comes naturally to people. Our classes focus that ability into a constructive lifelong sport. This is a great introduction to the sport of climbing. Under expert instructors, each program helps build trust and confidence while instilling new skills and safety. Adults and children are welcome.


The Course
Our First Steps course is designed for the complete beginner who wishes to learn the basis of climbing in a safe structured environment. You do not need to have climbed before.

Top rope climbing 101
This class is an introduction to basic climbing techniques. The class is designed to teach the fundamental skills you’ll use throughout your life as a climber. You’ll learn everything from how to stretch, to the types of holds and how to use them, to balancing and movement. It’s a great class and is perfect for beginning climbers.

Intermediate climbing
So you have the basics down, right? Good, you’re going to use them in this class. Intermediate Climbing is designed to build on the basic skills taught in our Climbing class, In this class we’ll teach you things like back stepping and cross-over’s, Stemming and high stepping, lock-offs, and basic strength training. If you want to take your climbing to the next level, this is your class.

Lead Class
Beyond top-roping. The main emphasis will be on placing protection, the use of directional and securing belays. Problem-solving scenarios and techniques. Personal gear may be used for this class ONLY with the approval of the instructor. Learn what it’s like to be on the “sharp” end of the rope. This course will teach you the basics of lead climbing in a safe and controlled environment. You will learn how to clip, rest, and fall safely. *You should be comfortable climbing 5C UIAA and have 6 months of top rope climbing experience.

What do I need?
All equipment will be provided. For clothing; don’t worry about fashion just wear something you feel comfortable in that does not restrict movement.
All equipment will be provided at no extra cost except shoes.

Sunday - Thursday
2.00pm - 5.00pm Courses for Children
6.00pm - 8.30pm Open evening for adults.
Saturday 9.00am - 12.00pm Courses & Open day for adults.

Membership rate for kids/adults
DHS 200 for 4 week Course Kids or Adults – 1 hour class (maximum 4 students per instructor).
DHS 50 for Open Climbing evening – stay till we close.
